Shorten reportedly offered Keneally US ambassadorship

Shadow Home Affairs Minister Kristina Keneally was reportedly going to be dispatched to Washington as Australia's ambassador to the US if Labor won the federal election. Former Labor leader Bill Shorten reportedly offered Ms Keneally the role as a reward for contesting the Bennelong byelection in 2017. She lost her bid for the seat despite a five per cent swing in her favour. Senator Keneally refused to confirm the deal but claimed she was offered the ambassadorship to the Vatican under Malcolm Turnbull. Image: News Corp Australia
