Rex Patrick to ask upper house to refer Setka to privileges committee
Supplied video obtained Wednesday, September 18, 2019 of Senator Rex Patrick in Canberra addressing the upper house. The address comes as construction union official John Setka said crossbench senators who don't like his campaign against proposed anti-union laws might need to "toughen up". The CFMMEU Victorian secretary has also denied threatening independent senators Jacqui Lambie and Rex Patrick. Senator Patrick believes Mr Setka's comments go beyond normal campaigning and has referred them to the Australian Federal Police. "Tomorrow I will ask the senate to refer this matter to the privileges committee," Mr Patrick says. "The remarks made by Setka go beyond threatening to run a campaign... Mr Setka foreshadowed members of his organisation crossing paths with myself and Senator Griff at some future time and engaging in abuse."
