Hanson defends blindsiding govt on ‘union busting’ bill

One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has warned the government to never take her vote for granted, after she voted with Labor to defeat the Coalition's signature union-busting bill. The government believed it had One Nation’s two votes, but at the last minute Ms Hanson and Malcolm Roberts sided with Labor to vote the bill down. Senator Hanson told Sky News on Friday she did not vote for the government’s Ensuring Integrity bill because it needed to shift its focus on white collar crime. “I want the government to address white collar crime. Don’t go after the unions if you’re not going to deal with the banks,” Senator Hanson said. Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said he was blindsided by the move and told reporters he “addressed every single issue that Senator Hanson and One Nation identified with us” in order to ensure her support.
