Folau’s verdict a ‘significant victory’ for free speech

The multi-million dollar settlement Israel Folau secured from Rugby Australia is a “significant victory” for free speech in Australia, according to Sky News host Rita Panahi. Mr Folau said he is “vindicated” after he and Rugby Australia reached a confidential settlement after the former Wallabies player was sacked for publishing controversial media posts about gay people and atheists. Ms Panahi said many conservatives supported Mr Folau “not because they agreed with him, but because they believe in free speech, they believe in religious freedom and they are appalled by the overreach that sees employers punish employees for ‘wrong speak’”. "The modern Left lost its way in this country the moment it abandoned the notion, that though I disagree with what you say, I will defend your right to say it". Image: News Corp
