‘Over 800 calls for assistance’ in NSW due to overnight storms

NSW SES Director of Operations Paul Bailey says there were more than "800 calls for assistance overnight" largely at "Sutherland, Miranda and Caringbah" in Sydney's south as storms downed trees. "Our in-house meteorologists were very concerned with these storm cells," he said. Winds in excess of 117kph were recorded in Canberra as hail damaged vehicles and structures across the capital. "They were very powerful and the chance of giant hail was thrown around a lot," Mr Bailey said. "We understand they've passed now, but that doesn't mean the storm season is over."
